The Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena is better known to fans as ‘Cardinal Country’.  The arena is part of a Field House complex on the campus of Plattsburgh State University.

In 2008, the arena underwent a $2 million dollar renovation that featured:
- Installation of 1517 theatre-style seats.
- New railing that includes cup-holders and stainless steel bar style foot rest.
- All new boards and glass.
- Relocation of the penalty-boxes and scorer’s table across from the benches.
- New scoreboards.
- Hard-wired and wireless internet connections.

The arena also features a 185x85 ice surface and an elevated press box for television, radio, and newspaper coverage.

Before the renovation, the Cardinals averaged 2000 fans per game.  A record attendance of 4000 was set in a game against Oswego State in 1987.  In 1992, 3800 fans packed the Stafford to witness the Cardinals 7-3 National Title win over Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The arena was officially named the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena in 1987 in honor of NY State Senator Ronald B. Stafford. The Stafford Ice Arena has hosted six NCAA championship tournaments (three men’s and three women’s).
