Wilson Leaves Devils Feeling Blue
CardinalHockey.Net Defending SUNYAC Champions Plattsburgh State opened 2008-09 league play with a 5-2 win over Fredonia State.
Plattsburgh jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period, with Riley Hill and Joey Wilson scoring 14 seconds apart. Nick Rolls who had 3 assists on the night, sent a great pass to Hill in Cards opening goal. Ryan Corry set up the Cards second goal, sending a hard pass up ice to Wilson, who went in alone on the Fredonia goaltender. Wilson deked the goalie and buried the puck on the backhand.
Eric Satim scored the lone goal for Plattsburgh in the second period, giving his team a 3-0 lead after two periods.
Fredonia gained the momentum early in the third by scoring two quick goals for the Devils, cutting the Cardinals lead to one.
However, Joey Wilson would score his second of the game on the power-play, giving the Cards some breathing room about half way through the third period. Phil Farrow would close out he scoring with another power-play goal at 19:24.
Plattsburgh played much better this week on the power-play, going 3 for 6 on the night.
Bryan Hince picked up his 2nd win of the season, making 27 saves on the night. Fredonia’s Pat Street fell to (1-2-1) overall, making 36 saves in the loss.
The Cards out-shot the Devils 41-29, while improving to 2-0-0 overall. Meanwhile, Fredonia falls to 2-2-1 overall.

Note: Plattsburgh State men's hockey coach Bob Emery has announced the Cardinal All-Decade Team. Eighteen former players representing the eras 1975 to 1984, 1985 to 1994 and 1995 to 2004 have been selected by their peers and a committee. They were chosen based on the following criteria: (1) hockey achievement, (2) academic progress towards graduation, (3) leadership on and off ice and (4) value to team. Most of the honorees are coming back for a special ceremony during the first intermission of Plattsburgh's game against Buffalo State on Saturday.
